Economics 1A Essay Format

The Assignment:

Use Google, Dogpile, AltaVista, Yahoo, Northernlight , or one of the links from the posted page, or any Internet search engine to research one or more topics that are related to the economics course that you are taking.  Can't think of a topic?  Look in the Contents, Index or Glossary pages in your text for ideas.  NOTE:  Pick a topic and then go to the Internet.  DO NOT go to the Internet to find a topic.  Picking a topic and then going to the Internet is research.  Going to the Internet to find a topic is browsing, not research.  You should visit at least two sites and preferably more.  Then, write a 2-page paper in which you explain where (the URL, Location, Address) you found the two most interesting sites, a brief description of what you found, and then your comments about what you found.  Your comments could include something about how reliable you think the information on the web site is based on the type of organization that posted and maintains the web site.  For example, a site that is maintained by "The Citizens Against Taxation" might not have completely unbiased information about taxes and the government's right to tax citizens.  You might also comment on the relevance of the information to what you are studying in class or any other comments that you might have about the information provided on the sites.  Print a page or two from each of the two most interesting sites and attach them to the back of your essay.  The site address that you give should allow me to go to the exact page that you went to.  Do not just say, "I found my site on Yahoo."

Format

The heading should follow this format:

Current Date

The 2-page paper should be double spaced, typed, spell checked, and the font should be no larger than 12 point and not smaller than 10 point.  The margins (top, bottom, left and right) should not exceed 1 inch.  Please do not use a folder or a cover page.  Cover pages and folders just make the papers more difficult to grade. Don't forget to attach one or two pages from each of the web sites to your essay.

Due Date

Check your syllabus.   However, you are encouraged to submit the assignment before the due date.  No late papers because I do not want you working on this paper when you should be preparing for your exams.
